THE PARK AT EXPO IDAHO
Boise, ID
The Park at Expo Idaho transforms a former horse racing track into a 88 acre vibrant public park, reconnecting the site to the Boise River. In collaboration with PORT Urbanism, we designed the 1.5 acre custom nature playspace as an immersive landscape inspired by the river’s rich ecology and varied terrain.
Subtle topographic landforms create distinct lowland and highland play zones, while thoughtfully connected play loops encourage exploration, discovery, and new experiences with every visit. Lowland play allows for wetland exploration and habitat experiences with local species.
Custom log scrambles, boulder gardens, and soaring climbing towers invite all ages and abilities to challenge themselves through imaginative, open-ended play.
A custom, 8-bay community swing that evokes the form of the former track ensures everyone can swing together. Comfortable seating and gathering spaces are woven throughout the playspace, creating opportunities for caregivers to relax and connect at the heart of the play experience.
