PLAYFUL LEARNING DESIGN MANUAL

Philadelphia, PA

What if we could transform cities into playful learning centers that oozed with fun opportunities for families? What if, on any given neighborhood block, we could find families playing together, and building skills in math, science, language, and reading while they played? What if children not only learned – but learned how to learn – experimenting, taking risks, and gaining confidence by playing in everyday places. What if?

The goal of this project is to position Philadelphia as a "Playful Learning City" by articulating a vision, producing a playbook to guide design efforts, piloting and evaluating playful learning activities in public spaces, and increasing understanding of the science of playful learning through the playbook and play passport.
