Field Researcher

About Us

Studio Ludo is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 2015 whose mission is building better play through research, design, and advocacy.

About the Position

We are looking for field researchers for our National Institute of Health (NIH) funded National Study of Playgrounds project.

The National Study of Playgrounds is the first observational study of playgrounds to compare the impacts of design on play behavior and physical activity across gender, age group, and socio-economic status. We are studying 3 innovative and 3 comparison playgrounds in 10 cities across the country, including Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Memphis, New York City, San Francisco, and Seattle.

The field researchers will be responsible for visiting and collecting data from 6 playgrounds in June – August 2021. The position will require a remote training session of two days, which will be paid.

Background and Skills

- During the summer of 2021, must be located in one of the 10 playground cities listed above.

- Currently enrolled in a program in design (Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and/or Urban Planning) or Public Health.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience with primary data collection preferred, but not required.

- Training in research methods preferred, but not required.

 

Compensation

$18 per hour, 32 hours per week, 6-8 weeks (weather depending)

Summer Intern - Design

About Us

Studio Ludo is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 2015 whose mission is building better play through research, advocacy, and design.

 

About the Position

We are looking for summer interns for June-August 2021. Our interns will work on a variety of projects, from a 200 acre redevelopment project, to local school playgrounds, to community outreach and engagement, to supporting our NIH funded National Study of Playgrounds.

The design intern will be responsible for tasks that range from developing conceptual and schematic level drawings, through hand sketches and CAD; 3D modelling in Rhino; illustrative rendering in Illustrator and Photoshop; researching precedent projects and imagery; GIS mapping and analysis; narrative writing and presentation development for national publications and conferences.

 

Background and Skills

- Living in Philadelphia (preferred).

- Currently enrolled in a program in design (Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and/or Urban Planning).

- Experience with AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, Adobe Creative Suite.

- Interest in play.

- Flexible, personable, empathetic, and kind.

Compensation

$18 per hour, 40 hours per week

Summer Intern - Advocacy

About Us

About the Position

We are looking for summer interns for June-August 2021. Our interns will work on a variety of projects, from a 200 acre redevelopment project, to local school playgrounds, to community outreach and engagement, to supporting our NIH funded National Study of Playgrounds.

 

The advocacy intern will be responsible for working directly with local residents, children, and families through art, play, and interactive constuction/craft sessions; supporting the development of a loose parts library through research, inventory management, and “freecycle” shopping; and supporting development and creation of Play Packs and Kits.

 

Background and Skills

- Living in Philadelphia (preferred).

- High school graduate or above.

- Experience with children and families.

- Interest in play.

- Flexible, personable, empathetic, and kind.

 

Compensation

$18 per hour, 40 hours per week
